DRIVE TO BOISE — AS IN DRIVE

My driving the van 400 miles to Boise went just fine. A possible downside is ———- Susan may want me to do more driving on the trips we take!!! She does deserve a break once in a while, so I guess it is only fair ;’-).

Here is one more example of helpful SISTERS … Jayne had a fitting for a sling that greatly relieved her discomfort.

Arriving on the late side of the day, once at Jayne’s house we unloaded some gear, got situated and ordered pizza for dinner. I thought it was the best pizza I have ever had, but was that because I was that hungry, or was it the best? Might have to try it again sometime from Idaho Pizza (sun valley vegetarian). BTW- Susan did an expert job of backing Jayne’s trailer into the inclined driveway! One time and she was in! Jayne was impressed as well.

Let’s go biking I say. The Greenbelt Bike Trail runs along, and on both sides of the Boise River. And we could bike there from Jayne’s house, down a soft and rocky trail but that was short.

The Trail…

Blurry photo of Susan to show we crossed a dry channel bed…

We made our way gingerly down the soft sandy/rocky path to the street and were soon turning onto the beginning of the trail.

This tree was huge, beautiful, and made me start singing “I stop to see the Weeping Willow, crying on his pillow. Maybe he’s crying for me-ee-ee”.

Views of the Boise River…

Susan checks on the fishing information. While reading the rules she had a conversation (of course) with a passing local worker carrying his fishing rod. He said he only gets about 25 minutes to fish as he was on his lunch break ;’-). Rather fish than eat i guess.

Leaving the trail for a bit we could not pass up this building name — for you Lucy…

It was soon time for lunch and we were at a great place at “Basque Block”. A lovely nook in the heart of Boise.

OK, lunch would work quite well and I could include my third teaneuring stop for my challenge ;’’-)

After a delightful lunch at Bardenay, we were on the hunt for yet another bike shop. Susan had forgotten her bike mirror, and rather than retrace the first mile back to the house, she elected to look for one at a bike shop since we always like to peruse those in different towns we visit. Long story short – we rode around and found at least five bike shops and not one of them had the mirror she wanted. The search did give us a good tour around Boise. I find it to be a very nice town and would visit again in the future.

More riding along the trail for a visit to the Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial. It is so impressive and brings up emotions about human rights, war and all the freedoms that were, and in too many cases, still taken from anyone who seemed or seems in any way ‘different’.

The setting is as roof tops one would see from the attic where Anne and her family were hiding.

There are passages by more than Anne all around the memorial but I found a couple of Anne’s to be moving.

I had my “things come in threes” moments during our ride: my mapping site stopped counting and mapping my miles; my Apple Watch ran out of battery; I got a flat tire. I can stop counting now.

After removing the wheel, which was fortunately the front, my hero changed the tire for me ;’-). I also used her mileage for the day.

We looked for our final bike shop that ended up being closed at 4:00, and it was now just after that. The frozen yogurt shop next door was open however, so we did that.

A most interesting, adventure filled, and fine day. We entered the last street before home for one more fall shot of the color that surrounded us.

Update on Jayne’s injury: after a visit to her local urgent care, it turns out that Jayne has a broken humerus (upper arm) and will be in a sling for a while, arm immobilized and taking different pain meds for a week and a return for check up after that. Good news is that her previous rotator cuff & biceps injury/repair were not involved and that is all fine. Now for the patience needed for her healing process. Update to the update is that the X-ray shows that she did crack a couple of ribs! Rest and recuperate, take it slow and easy.

  1. Another nice town. Your girl-friends are good at fixing flats. Lucky!
I had a fractured humerus once. Takes time but they do heal nicely.
