Being in dessert country there are lots of varieties of cactus. This is one I took a photo of while riding and looked it up when I got back to camp. What I will remember is Prickly Pear.
Opuntia engelmannii
Engelmann’s Pricklypear
This is a common pricklypear of the eastern portions of the southwest, appearing often in Texas, Louisiana and even Missouri. But it is also common in the true southwest, and desert Mexico.

I do know the Saguaro cactus and it is everywhere around here, the hills abound with them.

There are also lots of geckos around us. They have much longer tails than I have seen back east in North Carolina.

We thought this might be a prairie dog the way it was sitting up like that. Susan looked it up and says it might be a pigmy squirrel.

A little aside here. We seem to be continually on the search for the best chair! We have purchase several rather pricey models. At Patagonia Lake, Paulette had won this chair in a game, and has no real use for it so offered it up. Susan traded an item we had (not quite to the caliber of the chair, but Paulette was satisfied) for this chair as I deemed it quite comfortable. It is very light weight and folds up very small.

While Susan drove off to the store(s) for some items, I stayed back to read and relax in the sun.

The vote is still out as to whether this is that perfect chair, but for now I do and it comfy.
Another view of mountains around us.

Both Susan and I are very comfortable here and enjoying it more than at Patagonia Lake. I said I could easily spend a week here and basically we will be doing that but not at this nice park.
