Both Susan and I think of these Ponderosas as perhaps our favorite tree.

And here we are camped right in the middle of them in Union Creek Campground at Phillips Lake near Baker City Oregon.

Driving to White Bird Idaho, we had a few days to wander without being lost. Susan scoured the Driving Atlas for this area and uncovered the campground which turned out to be simply grand. Lots of room with no crowding of other campers, those spectacular trees, bathrooms with flush and running water!! Heaven. We spent two nights here with all the Memorial Day crowds gone!
We took a little bit of a bike ride just to get on the saddle for a turn of the pedals. We didn’t go far but enjoyed the views we did pass by.

After more wandering through the campground and environs we decided it was time for lunch right at a lakeside picnic table.

A map of the lake. In upper R hand corner are arrows to show campground and picnic area.

A little catch up of photos. On our last night of this SOTF outing we had a group photo of our, well, group ;’).
All happy campers.

On for leaving Greg’s home in Waldport Oregon, I opted to ride my bike the 18 miles to his house. About half the ride was on highway with fast traffic but wide shoulders, and only intermittent cars going by. The second half was along a winding, slightly up and down quiet road through a wildlife corridor. This was indeed a great highlight for me. There were no photos to show the delight of that part of the ride, but I did get a couple of Pacific ocean photos, stopping along the highway.

With a lone fisherman.

Visiting with Greg, going to a delightful little neighborhood Mexican place for dinner, and spending the night at his home topped off this part of our trip. His earlier visit to us at the campground was also very enjoyable – to say nothing of the ice cream he treated us to in Newport! Thanks for everything Greg – see you next time – likely in Washington.
