KAYAK POINT WITH THE SISTERS

This post will be mainly photos of our camping and cycling at Kayak Point in Skagit County.

It started out to be a dry weekend so there was hope.

It had rained for at least parts of the past few days, and as it turned out, would rain for our final evening here. But for now, it was dry.

This was, I think, the fourth year that Teresa has hosted this event. She has arranged for a friend or two to provide individual waffle irons for our breakfast fare.

It was fun to see all those waffle makers lined up as we approached the tent to pour our batter into the creative imprint of choice — snowflake? Star? Tree? And many others.

Everyone had brought a different topping to be, well, topped onto our waffles.

The morning was somewhat damp from last night’s rain and we were happy for the two big canopy tents to keep us dry and give us a place of warmth to have our breakfast.

We would be even more glad later at dinner time! But until then, the day’s weather was improving. Improving enough for four of us to ready our bikes for a ride.

Get ready everyone.

OK — Ready!

Me, Lisa, Susan and Nese all smiles and just a bit of a sun break.

Susan an I had found a ride on the gps app that started right from the campground — no driving to a ride start. The 24 mile loop route turned into 29 miles, but still we were pleased to have ridden in wind, and on some hills 🙄. After the first hill, Nese stopped to turn her cap around so to not catch the wind under her helmet.

We did fight some wind, especially on the last hill to camp, but along the way we had some highlights as well. We stopped for a few photo ops, the first of which was the Trumpeter Swans.

We took a little tour into and around the empty nearby campground before continuing on to the town of Sylvana.

You know you are in the country when you are following hay bales to town.

Sylvana is a very small town with a fresh meat market, a grain storage building, and a Five and Dime.

Lisa was apparently dressed in lighter layers than we others, and was feeling chilled. She wanted coffee so to warm her. We stopped at the only place in town.

By now however, it was getting on the late side of the day and we didn’t want to stop for long, so Lisa had her coffee outside. Not sure how much that warmed her up, but it helped.

We headed on down the road toward camp.

Had to stop for a picture of the daffodils and of us looking at them. Spring is near.

The trip through farm country would not be right without at least one photo of a farmstead.

We were treated to one more welcome sighting before the hard work started. Watching over his nest. Enlarge the photo for full effect.

The last part of the ride was in very heavy winds — heavy enough to stop Nese in her tracks one point, and later to blow her and her bike over and down! Hers is a very light bike with a very light rider! We fought the wind, the slight climbing and some traffic, with no a bike lane or shoulder, and got home safely.

We each and all felt we had had a great day with no rain until we pulled into our camp, and though it was at times work, we felt good. Troopers all.
