Elk Ridge Campground would be home for 4+ days and we would all have choices of what to do!

We arrived and got settled into our site before heading up the the “Gathering Circle” for introductions, dinner (provided by leader Liz and her co-leaders Jackie and Linda), and to pickup our “goodie” bags. Lots of goods in there!

In the dark of evening, Susan captured a great photo of our van on site.

Then we walked up to the “fireflies”. Well make believe fireflies anyway. The previous owner had set up little lights in the trees surrounding this open field, and is an “I Do” place for weddings ;’-). Difficult to see, but maybe if you embiggen the photo you will see the little lights.

The next morning we were welcomed with coffee and fresh home backed bagels. What a treat.

My choice of morning activity was to organize my photos and write in my blog. Directly below me as I was blogging… I noticed this looking up at me…

Jackie & Anitra chose to walk to the river for some fly fishing.

Susan’s choice was to organize her many flies and give some to whoever needed them, and then to go fly fishing herself with Anna as her photographer.
Look at the perfect fly fisher loops!

The big one got away! But Susan did bring one in close to shore before it leapt up and escaped from the hook. She has witnesses.

After writing and organizing photos for so long it was becoming afternoon! Back at the van Susan and I had lunch and I geared up for an afternoon bike ride.
Highway 410 is, well a highway. The traffic is minimal but does come in spurts and is FAST. The shoulder/bike lane varies from quite substantial to minimum. I would not be on the highway for much time before getting to idyllic Nile Road. Nile lasts for slightly less than 5 miles but is a cyclist’s dream, I rode to the other end which connects again to 410, turned around there and road the 5 miles back, and may have has 5 cars the entire time.
A nice country road, quiet and with hills and farms lining the way. And a few tumble down buildings and structures.

This one, along Hwy 410 looks like it could have been an ice cream stop or drive up burger stand.

This one seems to have had its day.

These are the smart cows. It is sunny and often hot over here and this group found the only shade around.

While I am at animals, this lone horse made me a bit sad. All alone and standing patiently at the gate wishing someone would come get him.
Of course these are my own ruminations, and MAYBE not the horse’s 😉. But he sure did look forlorn.

Seemingly out in nowhere, I was surprised to find this “lending” library.

I got back on 410 and extended my ride for a little and though the short spurts of traffic (usually only on or two at a time) were not intimidating and I did not feel unsafe. After my nice afternoon on the saddle I returned to camp and found Susan on the porch of a visiting cabin.

In the evening was the Seattle Storm women’s basketball game against Las Vegas Aces — what a game! This one would determine if the Storm would make it to the WNBA playoff series. They were behind for just about the entire time, making lots of poor passes and poor shots. With four minutes left in the game and behind by about 10 points, I, as a “fair weather” fan, left to return to our site, sure of the outcome of a sad loss. As I was walking away, the Storm fell to 14 points behind and I was assured the my leaving the game was the right thing to do!
BUT!!!! WE WON! 86-83 to tie in the playoff series.. How did that happen!?!?
