MAY CATCH UP BEFORE GETTING ‘ON THE ROAD AGAIN’

Susan and I will be very busy over the next couple of months, and then again after a little respite at home. We will start our season of camping at the end of May, some with ‘Sisters’, some with family, and one with Pleasure Way group. Before that all starts, I am dropping some photos that happened during the earlier part of May.

We had quite the mix of weather for the month with rain, sun, cold, warm and even a summer like day or three. Let’s start with a field of flowers at the start of the month.

Mara’s stump added flowers to the month, and included a duck with her duckling.

As the weather steadily improved, more friends were getting interested in riding, and Kristi & Kristin invited Rainbow Riders for a little jaunt from their house. The outing would finish up back at their house with food and games for those who wanted to participate.

Starting at their house, as Kim peeks out over the gate.

Cycling on town streets brought us to a trail for part of our ride. Though we were not on the waterfront for much of the trail, the marsh land and tributaries provided an interesting ride.

The starting group was small as Kristin waited at the house for some late arrivals. Kim takes our “selfie” with me, Meri and our leader Kristi.

There were some clouds, it was chilly, and we did get a few rain drops on us, but everyone stayed in good spirits and enjoyed the ride. When Kristi saw my rain legs I had put on for the rain, she immediately told Kristin she wants them for her birthday! They are great.

Soon we met up with the late comers and the group grew.

Good to have our other leader, Kristin, join us.

I didn’t stay for the festivities as I am not big on games, but did stop in to say hello to those who were there. It was so nice to see everyone.

Just a few days later, Shelly and Jo were up for a ride and Shelly led us along the Eastrail.

Jo gets her selfie setting ready…

Shelly peeks with smiles around the sign…

And the photo is taken by the sign without seeing the sign.

It was of course another good day and so fine to ride with these friends.

Kathy and I had had a ride on our respective calendars since a few weeks ago, and the time came. I had coordinated a ride along this same route with a mutual friend who could not join us on this day. I like this ride and was fine with doing it now and next week. Kathy couldn’t change her day to join us next week and had the great idea to do the route in reverse.

It was such a fun day and ride.

The weather was just right. No rain, lots of sun through a few high clouds, no real wind, temperature requiring only a light jacket. The reverse direction afforded some different perspective on a ride we often do. I have not ridden in that direction in a long time, and really enjoyed it. Good thing too, to stretch our brains at the end of the trestle to find our road ;’-). The pace that Kathy kept was perfect and felt relaxing to me so I could enjoy those sights and bird sounds.

Seeing this little girl on horseback was so delightful. I stopped to wave take a photo and chat for a minute or two, and told the mom that this was a highlight of my day! She thanked me and seemed so proud. As Kathy said, the little one is no bigger than the pommel on the saddle! Start ‘em young. The ‘rider’ waved hello to me with a big smile, and waved goodbye with the same happy smile. It was so delightful

The friendly cows soon appeared looking at me and just about posing for a photo. I could easily title these two photos “family” as I saw the baby cows behind the mamas.

I had some more of my solo rides around home with just a few photos to share.

These birdhouses look like they may have been built by a youngster. Just a feeling I get by the somewhat lackadaisical trim and the screws, plus their positioning, for a perch.

As I pulled into the the school yard and rounded the corner to that garden area, my attention was called to the whirling pinwheels planted in the soil. I thought perhaps the garden was maybe going to be tended to grow some crop, but it doesn’t look like that is true. But the beds have been cleaned up and are somewhat ready just in case. The pinwheels were a summer delight.

One of my rides took me past Beverly goat who is masquerading as unicorn.

I would get one more ride before heading out on our next camping outings, and it was a gorgeous one. The temp hit 80 which is a little hot for us!! My friends Lucie and Gay joined me for a ride in one of our favorite areas. It stayed in the 70s for us until the end so we could enjoy this beautiful day.

The route starts on the trail along the Snohomish River and takes us across the river on a dedicated bike trail alongside fast traffic on Route 2.

Sorry I did not wait a bit longer to get a better picture of Lucie.

I did get a slightly better one of Gay.

Here is a picture from the trestle trail we were on, looking back at part of Everett. The old boat is what caught my eye.

Our route took us on the same ride I had done in reverse with Kathy where I saw the young horse rider. You can see that photo, and the same cows we saw on today’s ride, in the post above.

Our lunch stop today was at the Bakery with outdoor seating and a very large baker. ;’-).

Back at the start and saying our farewells for this day. It was perfect for riding in perfect setting. Just look at these happy faces!

And now, at this very moment, I must finish my packing and house chores and ready myself for departure to Lake Cushman in a very few hours! See you there.
