OUT OF IOWA, INTO NEBRASKA, ON TO KANSAS

There is not much to write about today as it was mainly a driving day. I like to post anyway so when Susan and I are wondering “where were we when we saw that coyote warning sign?”, I can possibly find out by looking into my blog posts.

Anyway — we said our farewells to the Whistling Donkey where we definitely enjoyed the quiet, almost empty campground/bar & Grill.

Our last stop in Iowa was at a rest area where there was a wind turbine blade on display. I did not know that the blade weighs that much! It is so tall that I could not get the entire blade in the photo. To the left is the top of our van.

Entering Nebraska, I did not find a good state sign, so will make this do. I am not sure that I/we have ever even driving through this state.

Now we were heading to Lincoln and a hotel for the night. Susan knows that I “must” bike in as many states as I can. The distance is inconsequential just as long as my wheels touch the ground in the state and I turn the pedals. Nebraska makes state #32 for me. I wanted to do at least 10 miles, Susan said 6, we did almost 4! Around, up and over Holmes Lake & Park in Lincoln, Nebraska.

This next photo shows Susan no doubt looking for fish.

Interesting part of the trail is that there is a “bottom part and a top part”. We weaved around and got up top of the lake and then back to the level where we started.

Susan saw this sign on the way but did not tell me until we were returning.

Wait. WHAT?

We finished our ride with no wildlife encounter.

We are now in a delightful hotel suite which is almost like a villa! In addition to having a kitchen, we also have a washer and dryer which fit our needs at a perfect time. Lounging in the living room as our laundry gets clean ;’-). Neither of us got any photo of this place (Annabell Gardens) so maybe we can try for that in the morning.

  1. You look revived today. And there were a few welcome clouds to cool things off. Temps here are in the 70s. My sister comes tomorrow for a week. Looking forward to that. come home safely,

    1. Yes, totally revived! Susan worries about the 100+ degrees forecast for Kansas. We get to that camp this evening and will decide how long we can take it! We may leave the SOTF outing a little earlier than planned. 70 degrees sounds so grand. Give my best to Deb. Love you.

  2. I guess each state has its own resident wildlife 😀 You are doing great with your State Counts . 32 States so far and biked in every one of them no matter what the distance . Great going, Nancy and Susan .

    1. I would like it to be longer rides, but at least I got on my bike and we have been in the state doing some other things. This ride was my shortest by far. Thanks Meta.
