So, at 109 degrees we found our hotel for the night.

The word “Lodge” makes it sound a lot more exquisite than it is. The next photo is a typical room, but is not our room.

Some views inside the hotel.

The check-in desk.

The sitting room, should one desire.

There are games, should you be so inclined.

After our cool night’s sleep here in the ‘lodge’ in Lucas, we ventured into the town of Lucas.

It is not a big, nor a busy town – at least not while we are there. But it is a town full of art!

Apparently the town does get a lot of visitors and needed public restrooms. Outside the box thinking for much needed public restrooms, Grassroots artists created what is an art attraction: Shaped like a toilet tank, curved toilet seat (entrance doorway is the raised lid), sidewalk undulates to big toilet paper roll.

The area in the middle of the “seat” is a piece of art that has imbedded in it, things that plumbers have found in the line – if you are to believe town lore.

Mosaic wall art is inside the restroom.

Grassroots Art Center is for self taught outsider art students to express their own art and art form.

Each utility pole along Main has some sort of art decoration.

Inside the art building are many displays of different art and art forms. Way too much to take photos of so I took only a few of what I liked best of all. Others were good and worth seeing, but not to post.
Read the card that tells this dress is made of old maps of Mexico and photos of Mexico City.

The car and motorcycle caught my eye. Much more intriguing and amazing is what they are made of.

Lastly we took in the outside displays of the Garden of Eden, with no interest of having the guided tour inside.
Garden of Eden is on the National Register of Historic Places. A retired teacher in 1907 built his limestone cabin surrounding it with sculptures. There are lots more sculptures than I post here. Kinda weird really

OK, we are officially hot weather wimps. Horseshoe Lodge will be our home for another night even though the temp has dropped to 101! As was the case last night, temps will not dip much below 78. With not AC in the van, our fans would simply move hot air around us. So we are opting for AC again. Right now we are getting ready to head to the campground to see the other sisters and do the usually Meet & Greet introductory meeting and have our dinner there. Then back to AC for sleeping ;’).
Melting in Singapore. Is it humid in Kansas too?

Nancy, I’m really enjoying armchair traveling with you both! Love all the corny art-corn palace, jackalope, plumbers display, etc. However I’m perplexed as to why you would be traveling to the hottest places in the US and the hottest time of the year? Can’t imagine wanting to camp, fish, or bike in 90-100+ degrees. Speaking of fishing haven’t seen any pics of sisters fishing 😎 hint hint Be safe out there, Kim
