1) SOTF CURLEW LAKE — FREEZING GEEZERS – BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S

That is a rather long title!

We drove up to Lake Curlew a day before the event was scheduled to begin. And what a beautiful fall drive it was. I could not get many photos of all the colorful trees in the mountains, but we drank it all in, and know this has been the most color we have been in at this time of year.

Just a sample while driving.

Curlew Lake is in the northeast of Washington, very near the town of Republic. Once in town, we decided to sample the food truck that our hostess, Bonnie, had suggested. They were ready for the October holiday, which apparently frightened Susan.

After purchasing our luncheon fare, we found the Brewery which does not serve food but allows you to bring in your food, eat and have a beverage.

Susan chose a non-alcohol beer and, in addition to my mediocre tea (it is a brewery after all), I had a milk root beer that was very tasty.

I found the restroom sink faucet rather clever.

Republic is a very western style town, and very quiet.

What’s a western town without a swinging door entry to a saloon.

Having had enough initial time in Republic, we now were at the right hour for check in at the cabins at Tiffanys Resort.

We did not bike to the resort, but I got the photo later. No camping for us this time as the weather could be enough to make us true “Freezin’ Geezers”.

Evening photos of some of the cabins.

This one from the deck of our cabin.

The following morning, before more sisters arrived, we met with the three others who arrived a day early as well. We took a walk together on the lakeside trail

Beautiful lake, beautiful fall leaves reflecting in the lake. Our first real view and I took way too many photos. Culling was a challenge.

A little later that day Susan and I took a bike ride into Republic where I would have a tea stop for my Teaneurring Challenge. The views we had while on our walk had been leaves and lake; now we had some hills and pastures.

While having my tea at the outdoor table, Susan met up with those having a brew and the brewery. I found the best spot for my tea.

Had a visitor nonchalantly pass me on the sidewalk.

There were flocks of these wild turkeys walking around town, probably a nuisance to the townspeople but somewhat of a novelty for us.

On the ride back to camp we spotted these resting deer by the lake.

As well as turkeys, deer are prolific around here, and we saw many of them.

We had had a full day this day, and would have to rest up for more!

  1. That yellow tree really stands out in those two pictures of the lake. Very beautiful. My wife and I just drove back to Minnesota from Washington last week and were looking forward to seeing some colorful leaves. Unfortunately, they were very disappointing once we left Washington because we’ve had very weird summer weather this year.

Oh yeah, we also saw a lot of those wild turkeys around the Spokane area.

    1. It sure seemed that Washington has supreme fall color. And — some continues to linger even today. I have recently seen photos of people coming across flocks of the turkeys in a lot of different places. Must be the thing this year.
