SOTF FUN WITH SNOW IN OREGON

So .. we left home a day early as driving conditions were predicted to be horrendous the next day. Those predictions proved to be very true. Our 4+ hour drive down to Newberg Oregon, on Wednesday morning was smooth as silk with no weather concerns and little traffic all the way. We snuggled into our campsite and visited with the only other sister we knew was here, then called it a night.

This is what we woke up to on Thursday morning,

The snow continued for much of the day and was predicted to continue and, again, offer bad driving conditions for the following few days.

It was very beautiful, quiet and peaceful, but we worried about our other sisters’ safety of travel. Four of us took a walk in the falling snow, enjoying the winter wonderland.,

This event was scheduled as a “GALENTINES” gathering for ‘valentines’ day. Five of us made the trip safely and would wait, worry and wonder about the other 15 or so who had planned to be here.

Susan, me, Susan A., Jill, and Susie — three of five women named Susan!

After the first night in our original campsite, we moved to the group site that had been reserved for all attendees. There’s a bit of a story about this as both the group site and the event was real close to being canceled. Not good for the five of us as the campground was totally booked and we would have no place to stay! Finally we convinced the hostess to cancel the event but not the group campsite. Phew!

The (original) five of us made the best of the lemons we had been dealt. We set up our combined food and goodies (lots), got out our games and let the fun begin!

Happy Galentine’s Day…

Jill had made us each a heart. She joined two of them for Susan and me which we thought was especially sweet.

Susan A had brought a table top version of the corn hole toss, and everyone had a few turns at that. Even Ranger Brenda tried her hand at it later in our stay. Since I was’t with them at that moment, there is no photo of Brenda enjoying our ‘party’.

The wood burning stove provided heat and a bit of ambiance, and Susie was sure to not let it burn to embers. She tended it very well, and was often the fire starter in the mornings.

Periodically we would check to see what the weather was doing. Snowing.

Back into our cozy ‘hut’ and the game of Happy Salmon which was a real hit.

Our Sarah had introduced Susan and me, and family, to this active ‘ice breaker’ game and I was not sure it would go over very well as it seemed more of a kids game. Boy, was I wrong!! We had many rounds of Happy Salmon, laughing, giggling, and hoping to be the one who went out first to become the winner! Such fun.

Susan loves teaching people to juggle, and being snowed in presented a perfect time for that activity. By now, Cindy had arrived to join us for a day and night.

Let’s do one more check on the weather before watching our movie.

There would be no biking. Our bike cover kept our bikes safe from weather.

Susan A peeked out from her trailer.

And we took another look at our rigs, nestled in the snow ground.

The Big Event was the movie ‘Thelma and Louise’. We would dress appropriately for the movie to emulate some of the characters.

We are engrossed in the antics of Thelma and Louise as Susan A documents with her photo.

During some “down” time, we sat around the fire, gabbing, laughing more, and expressing how much fun we were having with our little gathering. Toni joined us on the last day and we would have at least some time getting to know her.

The sisters gather around the “campfire”.

While we chatted and relaxed, Susan A was busy creating.

Susan explained about her craft and how it was done, and made each of us an infinity ring.

Finally, on the next to last day, it was dry enough, and snow had melted away enough for us to venture out away from camp. Two sisters loaded us all up in their vehicles and drove us to the town of Aurora.

This is a town of antiques and many found something to purchase in the shops along the way. Yard art was included.

We gathered outside one of the shops to plan where we would go for lunch.

Susan A points out to Jill where to go to get her slug traps!

We had a good lunch, Susan A played the lotto game, but won nothing, and we headed ‘home’ satisfied with our day — and the entire GALENTINES outing ;’-)

Me, Susan, Susie, Toni, Jill, Cindy, Susan A. What a fantastic group.

Until next time sisters — stay happy and safe, see ‘round the campfire.
