I GOT TO RIDE MY BIKE TO OUR NEXT SOTF EVENT IN NACHES FOR ‘MOONBEAMS AND FIREFLIES”

We JUST finished having Flower Fun in Carnation and are now making our way to Moonbeams & Fireflies in Naches. Heavy morning rain solidified the thought we had had of spending the in-between night in a motel. The Best Western in Yakima would be our home for the night which would give us lots of time to catch up on the (pre-recorded) Seahawks game (we won) and then watch the Storm game (we lost). .

Yakima Greenway is a paved trail that leads from Yakima to Naches and Susan thought I should ride to there and meet her in Naches. So, off I go. It would be a somewhat shortish ride at about 13 miles, but short is better than none 😉.

A mere 3/4 of a mile from BW, after skirting a sketchy trailer area with a couple of sketchy people hovered together as if doing some illegal thing, I came upon the entrance to the trail.

At the start I meandered around some curvy areas alongside the river next to some sun bathed hills.

Across from the river are several lakes of different sizes, sort of connected to each other.

This little sitting area seemed out of place as it looked to me like a bus stop. However, as I continued along the trail, I saw these interspersed periodically for resting walkers or cyclists.

This beautifully paved trail skirts by quite a few fruit orchards. I tried to get a photo of the apples, but was marginally successful at best.

I had better success with the pears.

This sign intrigued me mainly because I had never seen a sign specifically warning about animals with hooves.

Once again I thought this might be a “unique” thing I had spotted. But … as with those bus stop type resting areas, these too were placed along the trail at different distances.

It is always nice to bike in a different area from what one is so used to, and this trail afforded me that for sure. At this juncture it looked like I could be entering a slalom course.

Nonchalantly rolling along, I heard it before I saw it.

There was a thundering roar to my right that sort of startled me at first. I stopped for a few minutes to enjoy the falls.

Nearby was what appeared to be an abandoned, deteriorating foot bridge to somewhere.

Continuing on this nice trail, I was nearing Naches, and the end of my ride.

We are in fruit country.

I met up with Susan at the park at the end of this trail and we sat under the shade tree to eat our pizza lunch (Susan had purchased two pizzas, one at each of the places she wanted to taste test!).

As we drove to venue for the event, we were treated to a sighting of several elk wading in the river. Cooling down on this hot day.

What my ride may have lacked in miles (which I continue to not count 🙄), it made up for new scenery and sights for me to enjoy.

Now on to the event activities.

  1. wow, I’m so sorry I missed this event, looks like a lot of fun. I hope it happens next year so I can experience this area I’ve not been to before. It was the right decision to stay home with my family, but I’ve so enjoyed all my time with all my “sisters” exploring new areas and meeting new people. Thanks for posting all the adventures Nancy, hope to see you soon!
