ARIZONA INTERLUDE & BIRDING

Here are Susan’s pedals she thought “we” did not need.

This trip we are doing may seem a little disjointed. I will take a stab at explaining, We are joining a Sisters On The Fly event here at Patagonia Lake. From here we head back to Tucson for a Pleasure Way (the manufacturers of our RV) rally that takes place at the KOA. We will be a couple of days early for the event so will camp for two nights at Catalina State Park. At the end of the PW event we head toward home with a stop in Elk Grove, CA to visit with Sarah and family.

This all came about with plans to see our California friends, Barb & Penelope, who we met a few years ago at a different Pleasure Way Rally. Since we would be way down here we found a SOTF event to attend and they joined SOTF as members at least to try it out! Once they arrive here, we will be doing most everything with them right up until we head for home.

Their pup Missie is never left behind ;’-).

Birding has held a slight interest for me, and I was happy to join the Bird Walk that Penelope had found. Early on Friday morning Susan and I met up with Penelope for the walk and we gathered at the viewing spot.

Our guide was full on information, and could even make authentic sounds of some of the birds. We got some viewing here and moved on down the trail.

They are looking up into the tree at a bird in its nest. I know our leader told us the name of this bird, but of course I don’t recall what it is. While viewing mama in the nest, papa was soon arriving with some food and we moved along to give them some privacy. Not a very good photo, but I was hustled along before I could try for something better.

Soon, I and a couple of others had had enough and turned back for “home”. I like sitting, listening, watching and trying to identify birds from a comfortable spot at a viewing area. Then a very short bird walk is enough. For one thing, once I try to find the bird in the binocs, it’s gone! Flown the coop. So I get bored. I don’t think birding is for me. But that does not mean I won’t try again.

  1. Nancy you should download the Merlin Bird ID app. It’s great for identifying birds, you’ll love it!

    1. Thanks Susie. I do have that app but use it only for bird sounds when I am sitting around. I cannot see a bird long enough to take a photo to identify it! But I do enjoy identifying some of the sounds of the birds.

  2. Hi Nancy, I am enjoying your journal so much. Thank you for making the effort at keeping up! I agree with you on birding. It might be interesting but is somehow beyond my reach.

I admire your and Susan’s energy for scoping out and discovering interesting activities. Have fun on the rest of your trip!

    1. That is so wonderful to know Suzanne. I often wonder if I write things that are truly of no interest to anyone! It is nice to know that you are enjoying my posts. We have one more full day here and head back up to Tucson tomorrow. It is nice to be in this weather (when not too hot), but we are ready to move on. thanks for reading and for your comment.
